The Swiss embassy in Mexico organised a public diplomacy campaign featuring a number of events as part of the celebrations marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Mexico. Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter launched the programme of activities in May 2015, which culminated in the state visit of then President of the Swiss Confederation, Johann Schneider-Ammann, to Mexico on 3-4 November 2016.  To conclude the celebrations, the Swiss embassy opened a House of Switzerland (Casa de Suiza) in close collaboration with Presence Switzerland and various sponsors, including prominent Swiss businesses and the Swiss Association in Mexico (Asociación Suiza en México). The Casa de Suiza was located on the grand Paseo de la Reforma, next to the Tamayo Contemporary Art Museum and the National Museum of Anthropology. During its six-week opening, members of the public were able to enjoy a number of exhibitions on Switzerland, a diverse cultural programme, and visit the Casa de Suiza cafe and shop. The Casa de Suiza – México 2016 project helped generate more understanding about Switzerland among the general public in Mexico and made a tangible contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries.
