The House of Switzerland which is lovingly called “Baixo Suíça”, has become the place to be at the Lagoa during the Olympic Games for tourists and cariocas alike. Since its inauguration on August 1 st , which happened to be as well the Swiss national day, it has won the heart of the public, just like during the World Cup in 2014, when elected best hospitality house.
Being the first Nation House to open its doors and one of the few open to the general public, with a broad variety of activities for all ages, it has been a fantastic first week to repeat the 2014’s success!
Special inauguration week program
The opening ceremony for the House of Switzerland counted with the special participation of the Swiss Ambassador in Brazil, André Regli, the Ambassador to the Swiss Presence, Nicolas Bideau and the General Consul in Rio de Janeiro, Gian-Carlo Fenini. To celebrate the opening week of the House of Switzerland we had daily special presentations by the Orbital Choir from the Superior Musical Conservatory of Lausanne and the School of National Circus in Rio de Janeiro, where they mixed singing, music, and acrobatics to a unique show.
Our guests came to enjoy Marc Sway’s groove and experienced the perfect combination between Switzerland and Brazil with the participation by the Unidos da Tijuca Samba Squat. Marc sings in Portuguese and English and mesmerized the crowd as with classics from Djavan and Jorge Ben.
Our ice rink was transformed into a hockey playground for a couple days, where kids learned the basics about the sport and we even had a friendly match between the Brazilian National Team and our House of Switzerland Team.
During this first week we had the honor to receive the president of the Swiss confederation Johann Schneider-Ammann, our charming Miss Switzerland Lauriane Sallin and many Athletes.
Permanent Activities
Next to this special opening program the House of Switzerland counts with a wide variety of permanent activities! The kids are enjoying their time off school and having fun at the ice rink, the snow globe and the running track. Our turning gondola with stunning panoramic views of the Alps and the augmented reality googles in the miniature train, bring you Switzerland's panorama even closer. The admission tickets for these activities will be given out until 15:30h.
Nestlé presents for its 150 th anniversary an overview of its most iconic products in Brazil like condensed milk (Leite Moça), lacteal flour, coffee and chocolate, which depict the company’s Swiss roots and their 95 years long history in Brazil. On top of that the visitors will receive a glimpse of Nestlé’s history inside female volleyball.
The wine tasting workshops with the Swiss wine from the Chasselas grape and the L’Evitaz AOP cheese, which is organized by the professional association of the “Vignerons de la Côte Vaudoise”, has been fully booked within no time. Brazil will be the first country in South America importing this delicacy.
The UrbanFarmersBox, which is a mobile urban agriculture box, showcases how sustainable food production of fresh and locally grown vegetables and fishes can be done through the aquaponics technology.
In our Atelier Shop you can get the world known Swiss army knife, the Curaprox tooth brushes and chocolate from Frialp, which is the Chocolaterie in Nova Friburgo. To refill your batteries we offer you Swiss culinary delicacies as the Swiss barbeque at Feuerring, which combines the Swiss tradition with Brazilian barbeque. And to relax after all these activities and delicious treats, we offer you the chill lounge with hammocks and slacklining.
We’ll be showing live on our 24m2 flat screens the games and cross fingers for the Brazilian and Swiss Athletes. We’re looking forward to all the medal ceremonies inside the house, so don’t forget to check out our agenda to join the celebrations!

Energy Day: The Swiss Business Hub and swissnex Brazil will be transforming the House of Switzerland into an Energy House, where energy will be collectively produced. Together with specialists and visitors, we will present and discuss together the possibilities of reducing energy in our society to achieve our common goals.
