En el marco de la Convención de las Naciones Unidas, que aspira a preservar los bienes culturales y los sitios naturales de la tierra que cuenten con un “valor universal excepcional”, doce sitios suizos han sido inscritos progresivamente desde 1983 en la lista de la UNESCO. Nueve por sus características culturales y tres por su belleza natural.

The tradition dates back to the early 20th century and has become a celebration not to be missed, drawing in crowds of between 20,000 and 25,000 every year. The event is hugely popular and eagerly anticipated by residents and friends of Fribourg.

For the first time in its history, the world's leading international competition for young violinists will be held in Switzerland. The Menuhin Competition, known as the 'Olympics of the Violin' will see the 44 top young violinists worldwide compete in Geneva from 12–22 April. This year two Swiss artists – Sumina Studer and Anatol János Toth – have made the competition, selected from over 300 young violinists from all over the world.
